When I was diagnosed with PCOS, I thought I would have to endure expensive and stressful fertility treatments. I was also concerned about the effects of these treatments on my body as I preferred to pursue natural treatments.

I saw a reproductive endocrinologist when my husband and I struggled to get pregnant and I thought it would solve all of our problems. Unfortunately their approach was to throw lots of hormone altering medications at me and hope that a baby was the result. I didn’t feel like this aligned with me or my husband's values and this particular doctor did not offer us any advice other than taking lots of prescriptions that had scary side effects and birth defect warnings.

We wanted to conceive naturally. A family member who struggled for years to get pregnant recommended Gina to us after her first child’s birth and I am so thankful I pursued acupuncture! From my first appointment, Gina discussed my cycles and different treatment plans to help control my PCOS and improve my overall health.

​When I started my therapy, my cycles were 60-70 days long and I was not ovulating. By the end, my cycles were regularly 30 days and I was ovulating every cycle.  I started taking the herbs that Gina suggested and the first month I took them, my husband and I conceived a beautiful baby girl.

I only had to see Gina for 7 short months before I became pregnant. I have had no pregnancy complications and Gina even helped with treatment for morning sickness which resulted in me having very minimal morning sickness symptoms. My first trimester was a breeze!

My husband and I are so thankful for Gina’s help and expertise! I was blown away by the results and was very happy to have the opportunity to conceive the way I wanted to, naturally!

​After one year of marriage my husband and I made the decision to get pregnant. Two years later, after much tracking and many positive ovulation tests, we still had yet to conceive. Onto the fertility doctor...she recommended we try the drug Clomid with intrauterine insemination (IUI). I was extremely hesitant of using Clomid as my friends had told me about some of the terrible side affects they had experienced. With much apprehension to the suggestion another year of tracking went by with no pregnancy.  

Thankfully, by word of mouth, I became familiar with Gina Butler. As soon as I saw first hand the successful pregnancy my acquaintance was having due to Gina's help, I immediately called to schedule an appointment. ​​After struggling to become pregnant for over a year my husband and I reached out to a fertility doctor and began treatment. I had read that acupuncture could help increase the success of fertility treatments and so at that same time began getting treated by Gina.

I went through about 6 or 7 cycles and during that time had two lost pregnancies. After my second miscarriage I felt like I needed to take a break from all of the drugs and focus on healing my body. I continued to see Gina on a weekly basis and started using herbals, which she concocted, as a way to heal my body.  

After only 4 months of acupuncture and herbs I became pregnant without the aid of any pharmaceuticals. This pregnancy was much healthier. I continued to see Gina throughout the pregnancy and she helped me through many normal pregnancy issues - nausea, insomnia, aches/pains, and breech baby. At the end of the pregnancy I had a beautiful and healthy baby girl!  

Once my daughter was a little over one-year old I returned to Gina to start getting my body ready for a second pregnancy (which I thought would take awhile). We did a few treatments and the first time my husband and I tried to conceive, we did! We now have a second beautiful and healthy baby girl!

You are awesome! Took a test Saturday and Sunday and both were positive. Baby number 2 with no meds is on the way. My husband and I began trying to conceive in December of 2009. We waited and waited for my cycle to start but it never did. I was placed on Provera to “jump start” things but things never did regulate and in December of 2010 I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). I was given a strict low carb diet and placed on Metformin and Clomid, but each month my cycle would get longer and longer while my blood work would get worse and worse and I never ovulated.

Finally, after a cycle that lasted 42 days and progesterone blood work that went from bad to worse, my doctor suggested I try acupuncture along with everything else we were doing. At this point I figured what could I have to lose, we had two more months on the Clomid before we would have to see the specialist, so I was willing to give it a try. 

I began meeting weekly with Gina for acupuncture in early May of 2011. On the very first visit Gina made me feel at ease. She took my pulse and was able to figure out the best treatment plan based on that and my medical issues. I was shocked that I was actually very relaxed during the appointment and the feeling lasted well after the treatment.

Gina also made a combination of Chinese herbs for me to take as well to help regulate my body. I had only been going in for treatments for about four weeks, when I had blood work done and it showed a slight improvement in progesterone levels. I am an avid temp charter and used my ovulation predictor kit religiously and based on those two things I believed that I might have ovulated after the blood work was done. I continued on with the treatments and taking my temp.

The weekend of June 4th I began to have some spotting and thought my cycle was beginning on day 32, which was much better than the previous cycle that lasted 42 days. The spotting stopped, and I thought that maybe it was a light period and called the doctor’s office to see if I should start my Clomid yet. They said to take a pregnancy test first. I thought they were nuts but did so anyway. Four positive tests later, I called the doctor’s office and set up blood work to confirm. The blood work also showed I was pregnant!

After a year and a half of trying with no luck, no regular cycle, and never ovulating I was pregnant, and I can say with my whole heart that I believe it was the acupuncture and Chinese herbs that made it possible.

I think if we had continued on with the “traditional” medical path we would still be trying with no luck to conceive, acupuncture really made the difference for us.  - L.M. - Columbia, MO
